Live activity

Facts reviewed:

Open Live in the console sidebar to follow a rolling 30-minute window for the selected app. The historical Overview keeps its existing behavior. Live updates run only while the Live page is open and visible. Use Pause live updates to hold the current snapshot, or Resume live updates to fetch a new one. Hiding the tab, going offline, or leaving the page stops polling.

  • Active visitors: estimated distinct visitors who emitted a page view or custom/rule action in the last five minutes. Someone quietly reading an open tab may not count as active. This feature does not add visitor heartbeats, cookies, or new identifiers.
  • Pageviews: recorded pageview events in the last 30 minutes.
  • Custom and rule events: occurrences, not unique people or automatically inferred conversions.
  • Errors: error-type events and custom events named error, exception, or unhandledrejection. Custom error events also contribute to the custom-event total.
  • Selected event: enter an exact event name or select one from the recent event list. This adds its total and a chart metric while keeping the overall traffic totals and breakdowns unchanged.

The minute chart includes a table alternative. Pages, countries, campaigns, referrers, and event names show the ten largest groups by event count. Direct means no referrer was recorded; No campaign means no campaign tag was recorded. Neither label proves how a visitor arrived.

Successful requests are followed by a ten-second polling delay. The API shares snapshots for up to five seconds within an API process and limits concurrent Live queries. Network and ingestion delays can add latency: Last updated is the snapshot time, not a guarantee that every event has arrived. The window uses recorded event time; very late events can fall outside it.

Failed requests are shown as failures, never as zero traffic. A previous successful snapshot stays visible with an explicit stale-data message. Retries slow down after errors, up to a 60-second delay. A successful request restores the normal interval. Access errors stop polling and clear the snapshot.

All queries check current app membership and exclude expired data. Results contain aggregates only, without visitor identifiers or event payloads. The public static demo does not manufacture live activity.
