OwlEye vs Plausible vs Umami: An Honest Comparison

A traffic chart tells you how many visits you recorded. Choosing analytics also means asking whether you can measure the button, form, and completed action behind a signup—and find the step where visitors leave. OwlEye, Plausible, and Umami offer different workflows for those questions; their plans and metrics are not interchangeable.
We build OwlEye, so this is an interested comparison. The useful question is which product fits your traffic, workflow, and maintenance budget. Sometimes that will be one of the alternatives.
Choose the workflow you actually need
OwlEye’s workflow starts with the actions you want to understand. Install page analytics and the optional rules entrypoint once, then configure supported click, form-submit, and section-visible events in the dashboard. Reuse stable selectors; new tracker starts and page loads fetch saved changes. Ordered funnels show where those recorded steps drop off.
A form submission is not a confirmed registration, and a click is not a successful payment. Record completed outcomes with explicit application events. On eligible paid plans, when AI is enabled and available, you can also ask questions about the recorded data and inspect the supporting report.
Plausible documents pageview goals, custom-event goals, and conversion reporting. Its plan boundaries matter: check the plan for the reporting, properties, sharing, and API features you need rather than assuming every feature is in Starter. Plausible goal documentation.
Umami’s pricing page lists capabilities and retention by plan. Start by testing its free plan against your real reporting questions. A generous allowance is useful only if you can answer those questions without an extra reporting pipeline.
Hosted prices, with the units attached
This snapshot was checked on 7 October 2026. Dollar amounts are advertised USD monthly prices, before any applicable taxes. These are selected entry plans, not quotes for every traffic level or an annual-billing comparison.
| Plan detail | OwlEye | Plausible | Umami |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free hosted plan | 10,000 billable events/month | Trial; no ongoing free plan listed | Hobby: 100,000 events/month |
| Entry paid plan | Pro: $9/month | Starter: $9/month at 10,000 pageviews + custom events | Pro: $20/month |
| Included paid usage | 100,000 billable events/month | 10,000 pageviews + custom events/month | 1 million events/month |
| Sites on that paid plan | 10 projects | 1 site | 20 websites |
| Retention on that paid plan | 24 months | 3 years | 2 years |

OwlEye’s billable events include page views, custom events, and rule events. Verified bot views, page-duration records, and performance telemetry are excluded. Plausible counts custom events toward its pageview allowance. Do not compare either number with your site’s page views alone: 10,000 views plus 5,000 button events uses more allowance than 10,000 views.
Umami’s free allowance is ten times OwlEye’s free allowance, and its Pro plan includes more events than OwlEye’s base Pro tier. If included volume is your main constraint, those are meaningful advantages. For a fair quote at higher volume, select that volume on every provider’s pricing page and include overage rules.
Check the edition and operating requirements
Plausible offers a self-hosted Community Edition. Umami publishes installation instructions using PostgreSQL. Read each edition’s license and feature boundaries before treating it as a free replacement for its cloud plan. Running either yourself also means taking responsibility for storage, upgrades, backups, security, and recovery.
OwlEye’s managed service keeps that operating work with us. Choose it for the dashboard-managed event and funnel workflow, then check the plan’s event allowance, retention, team access, and eligible AI features against your needs.
What this comparison deliberately does not score
We have not benchmarked equivalent versions of all three trackers on identical pages and devices. A vendor’s script-size headline is not interchangeable with a measured complete import graph, and neither proves a Lighthouse impact. There is no invented speed ranking here.
Likewise, cookie-free operation is a collection characteristic, not a compliance certificate. Review payloads, retention, contracts, and the rules applicable to your deployment. Start with the analytics privacy checklist.
Try the same small experiment in your shortlist: one landing page, one outbound click, and one confirmed product action. Compare setup effort, payloads, reports, and the resulting billable volume. That exercise tells you more than a table full of green ticks.
Start free with one supported dashboard event and a funnel toward a confirmed signup. Use the recorded drop-off to choose your next question.
